chapter beta. Brighton. Not your average pop up!
So this thing is actually happening. I have launched an actual pop up. IRL. Woop! Which is totally to blame for lack of blog posts recently!
For the first chapter pop up I partnered with All by Mama (www.allbymama.com), an online marketplace selling products made by mums running their businesses around family life.
We located in the funky, bright, wonderful Dukes Lane in the heart of Brighton for three weeks in June. And it’s been amazing.
Given that I'm always talking about retail as theatre, marketing, media and all...we did not stop at offering the chance to buy beautiful clothes, gifts and homewares for you and your kiddos made by 46 amazing Mamas (this is an @allbymamauk pop up after all!).
Oh no! We put on some great events throughout the opening of the shop as well. From first aid courses for babies (well, for their parents really!) to pitch nights for budding female entrepreneurs. From providing co-working space with free coffee and wi-fi, to kids colouring sessions. We had events on offer daily, run by fab female-run independent businesses.
We also attempted to make this the most mum friendly store ever...(this is a chapter store after all!) where there was stuff for the kids to do while parents browsed; where we didn't put breakables on the bottom shelves; where the worst the kids could do was unfold all the beautiful clothes or bounce on a cushion or two! As I said to a few people, I "Iris-proofed" the store! (Iris is my 2yo. She finds danger and breakables where the health and safety police couldn't.) Well I say that but the little madam herself has yet to visit. I may have to edit this post in 24 hours after she’s been in!
So we are open for just two more days and I’ll be sad to close down. But I’m already excited about and planning my next pop up. Look out London…!
Gemma (All by Mama founder and newfound friend) and I have learnt so much from the whole experience, and I’ll definitely be sharing some of that in the next blog post.
I’ll also tell you all about the wonderful pitch night we held in store. Truly inspiring.
For now, better get back to the till!
